From the landing stage in Weesen/SG we take a leisurely stroll along Lake Walen. After four kilometers we make our first leisurely coffee stop in the restaurant Burg Strahlegg above the beautiful Walensee.
The path continues past a beautiful chapel to the viewing platform, which offers a view of a gigantic water spectacle. With a height difference of almost 600 m, the Seerenbach Falls are one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. Even from a distance, you can hear the masses of water thundering over the vertical rock face in three cascades. At the same time, the middle stage with a drop height of 305 m is considered one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Switzerland. Immediately below the impact zone of the Seerenbach cascade, the Rinquelle also comes to light and falls over a 45 m high rock face into the Seerenbach. From there, it is a 30-minute walk down to the Betlis boat landing stage.
At 11:15 a.m., the boat departs Betlis for the car-free, idyllic vineyard village of Quinten, home to about three dozen inhabitants. It is separated by a small promontory on one side by Lake Walen and on the other by the steep rock faces of the Churfirsten. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate, not only grapes grow here, but also figs, kiwis and other tropical fruits.
We will stroll through the little village and make a detour to the historic chapel of St. Bernhard, the centerpiece. Just opposite there is the small "Kellerlädeli" of Margrit Bärlocher. She sells homemade kiwi jam, mulberry jelly, wild garlic pesto with fresh ingredients from her own garden, marigold ointment and much more. After so much delicious food, a fine lunch (à la carte!) awaits us at 12:30. If the weather and the temperatures allow it, we will of course treat ourselves to a seat on the terrace. Otherwise, we will be seated inside the Restaurant Seehus.
We return by boat from Quinten to Weesen. There we board our private cars and drive to Bilten, seven minutes away. There will be a guided tour of the Christian-run and world-renowned chocolate company Läderach.
